A seasonal golf course laborer helps keep the course looking its best, not only tending to the holes, but also perform landscaping duties around the clubhouses, parking lots and tee boxes. Requires use of heavy machinery such as large mowers and cutters.
Works under the supervision of the Chief Maintenance Supervisor and/or Greenskeeper.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The golf course laborer is responsible for cutting grass on the tee boxes, fairways, roughs, fringes and greens; irrigating the course and working on its watering system; sodding; trimming; and applying fertilizer and pesticides on and around the course. Will use equipment such as walking and riding greens mowers, tee mowers, fairway mowers, rough mowers, rollers, bunker rakes, carts, push mowers and a variety of powered and non-powered hand tools.
A. Maintains golf course grounds with rotary and reel mowers both hand and riding.
B. Maintains flower & ornamental beds
C. Uses chain saws, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, irrigation hose
D. Performs other duties, including those of other classifications (higher and lower) and standby crews, as assigned and/or as conditions warrant. Observes rules and practices on quality of work, personal conduct, and safe, effective and courteous service to the public and community.
Performs related work as may be required.
Provide quality and effective customer service with courtesy and understanding to our customers, citizens and internal departments.
Education and Experience:
A. Knowledge of reading, writing, and simple arithmetic;
B. Knowledge of care and use of common tools for general maintenance and grounds maintenance;
C. Valid PA Driver's License of the appropriate classification.
D. Equivalent combination of related education and experience.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A. Experience in turf maintenance, and the knowledge and abilities to perform the duties listed below.
B. Knowledge of the use, operation and maintenance of hand and power tools; chain saws, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, reel & rotary mowers and tractors.
C. Knowledge of the methods, tools, and materials used in the maintenance of turf, trees, flower and ornamental beds.
D. Understanding of golf course equipment and of safety precautions required when using heavy equipment including tractors, mowers, & wood chippers.
E. The ability to differentiate between different types of grasses and mowing heights.
F. Ability to mow greens, tees, fairways, rake sand bunkers, and hand water.
G. Ability to follow oral, handwritten and typed instructions.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Requires the use of tractors, tractor attachments, all types of grass cutting mowers riding as well as hand operated mowers. All power tools and equipment associated with operation of maintaining the golf course and clubhouse grounds.
