|Class Title: Traffic Planning & Engineering Intern|
Pay Rate: $10.00 per hour

Performs a variety of semi-skilled duties to prepare, install and repair/replace various roadway signs, pavement marking and other traffic control devices throughout the City.
Works under the supervision of the Traffic Superintendent or Chief Maintenance Supervisor
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with signal file management/organizing/canning.
Conduct traffic signal inspections and prepare a field report.
Conduct field investigations and develop recommendations.
Conduct Traffic and Pedestrian Counts.
Assist with speed study and crash analysis.
Assist with citizen complaints and 311 requests.
Assist with minor auto CAD designs.
Assist with citywide LED street light conversion.
Perform related work as may be required.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
(A) Interest in public works projects and a desire to pursue career pathways in the public sector.
(B) COA requires that student be currently enrolled as a sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student.
(C) Engineering students and/or students from related disciplines are especially encouraged to apply.
(D) Candidates should be able to work outside, independently and as part of a team.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
(A) Ability to understand and follow standard routines and practices.
(B) Knowledge of tools, materials, and processes needed in the performance of duties.
(C) Ability to work outdoors under varying weather conditions; Ability to work safely
(D) Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
(E) Computer skills including MS Word and Excel; knowledge of auto CAD design
(F) Leadership qualities and solid communication skills.
(G) Ability to read, write, add and subtract whole numbers.
(H) Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions; Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
(I) Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.
Minimum age of 18 years old with a valid driver's license of the appropriate classification.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Requires use of personal computer with software experience in Excel, Microsoft Office Word, Auto CAD, Arc GIS, closed loop traffic software, and traffic controller firmware.
The following tools are used; volt meter, transistor checkers, oscilloscope and digital test probes, computer-based monitor tester, power drill, underground wire and loop detector locator, tar vat, tone line tester, rotary hammer drill, and ceiling crane
