930-030 - SUMMER LABORER (TPT)

Pay Rate: $10.00 per hour
Department: Public Works
Bureau: Storm water / Streets
Performs a variety of duties to maintain, construct and repair storm sewer lines, manholes, inlets and safety grates.
Performs a wide variety of labor duties involved in the construction, surfacing, and repair of city streets, roadways, alleys, and other surfaces.
Work under the supervision of the Stormwater Manager, Chief Maintenance Supervisor or Crew Leader in absence of supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work from established routines, specifications, specific handwritten, typed, or oral instructions and standard knowledge of surfacing and repair operations and methods.
Installs Storm water inlet decals for the EPA program. May be asked to update information in City's Computer system using the Lucity work order system.
Clean safety grates & outfalls of debris and vegetation.
Spread, levels and compacts dirt, gravel and patching materials. Performs shoveling, raking and tamping.
Make up portable barricades, truck sideboards, sandbags and no parking signs as needed.
Notify crew leader or supervisor of unusual conditions.
Provide quality and effective customer service with courtesy and understanding to our customers, citizens and internal departments.
Wears appropriate safety equipment as needed.
Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
Perform routine vehicle maintenance as outlined on daily inspection sheets.
Perform related work as may be required.
Must be 18 years or older.
Education and Experience:
(A) Ability to work independently
(B) Valid driver's license of the appropriate classification
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
(A) Knowledge of tools, materials, and processes needed in the performance of duties.
(B) Ability to read, write, add and subtract whole numbers.
(C) Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions; Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
(D) Ability to understand and follow standard routines and practices on street repairs and construction.
(E) Ability to work outdoors under varying weather conditions; Ability to work safely
(F) Some knowledge of equipment, trucks, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities;
(G) Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time
(H) Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Motorized vehicles and equipment, pickup truck, tamper, plate compactor, shovels, wrenches, picks, rakes, sledge hammer, mobile radio and phone.
