Performs a variety of functions in the Business Expansion Attraction and Retention (BEAR) Office to improve the Allentown business community. This position has a strong focus on business retention, understanding the resources available to the business community and economic development marketing. The position provides input on the economic development strategy of the office and develops effective community relationships. The development and execution of external marketing strategy will be a continued emphasis.
Works under the supervision of the Business Development Manager
May exercise supervision over department support staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supports the Business Development Manager and CED leadership team on the short-term and long-term strategies and goals of the department.
Provide strong focus on retention of new and existing City of Allentown businesses and understanding the needs of businesses in all industries. This individual must be able to meet with a business and provide referrals to appropriate service providers/agencies who can provide assistance.
Understand the local business environment as it relates to attracting and retaining key businesses within the city. Responsibilities will include preparation of presentations to targeted businesses and maintain current information for accuracy and report generation.
Coordinate site tours as needed for new and expanding Allentown businesses in cooperation with the Business Development Manager. Responds to RFP's, RFI's, and other inquiries for new and expanding businesses through site location assistance.
Plans and reviews marketing and promotion campaigns including online/social media, print, video, direct mail or other communication tools, related to economic development. Conducts market research of industry trends to develop strategic marketing recommendations to CED leadership that increase business recruitment and retention efforts. Analyze key metrics, update strategy as required, and provide (ROI) reporting to CED leadership.
Be actively involved with weekly social media marketing activities.
Communicates with new or existing business and real estate partners planning to establish or expand operations by assisting with their site selection needs.
Serves as a key point of contact assisting businesses navigate and meet the City of Allentown's Building Code requirements through inter-department collaboration.
Responsible for referring prospective business owners to administrators of local and regional economic development financing/incentive programs.
Assists with arts-based economic development initiatives, including Allentown Arts Commission participation, civic programming, and public art management.
Serves on various community, government, and economic development committees.
Performs related work as may be assigned by management.
Education and Experience:
(A) Four-year college degree in Business Administration, Management, Marketing or other related area of study;
(B) At least two years of experience in economic development
(C) Equivalent combination of related education and experience.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
(A) Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written and express ideas, both orally and in writing.
(B) Ability to effectively interact in public with business owners, key stakeholders, community partners, developers and other economic development organizations.
(C) Ability to effectively generate reports and record minutes of meetings for distribution.
(D) Ability to establish and maintain close effective working relationships with public officials, employees and general public.
(E) Ability to efficiently respond to questions from members of the community; communicate effectively in both written and oral form.
(F) Ability to demonstrate a willingness to be flexible, versatile and/or tolerant in a fast changing work environment while maintaining professionalism and efficiency.
(G) Ability to be a self-starter and work independently, yet thrive in a team environment
(H) Project Management Skills
Must have a valid State Driver's license or ability to obtain one.
May require attendance at meetings & special events conducted outside of normal business hours.

Requires intensive daily use of personal computer and telephone.
