Class Title: Recreation Manager Grade Number: S13; Exempt ($71,019/year) Department: Parks & Recreation Bureau: Recreation Union: None
GENERAL PURPOSE
The Recreation Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing a wide range of recreational opportunities that enhance quality of life for residents and stakeholders of all ages and abilities.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the supervision of the Director of Parks & Recreation.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Exercise direct supervision over Recreation Program Specialists and Recreation & Special Events Outreach Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
" Lead the Recreation Bureau to provide a diverse offering of recreational experiences for city residents. " Supervise the Recreation Program Specialists and Recreation & Special Events Outreach Coordinator, providing leadership, guidance and direction over planning, budget management, and community outreach related to recreation. " Hire and utilize seasonal staff and interns to expand departmental reach. " Provide administrative guidance to the department through improved procedures and policies to improve access to recreational opportunities. " Develop, plan, and implement a variety of recreational opportunities that meet the needs of a diverse city. Build upon existing programs (sports leagues, aquatics, summer playgrounds) and develop new programs and expand offering. " Manage budgets: develop and manage budgets for recreation, ensuring that expenses stay within allocated funds. Seek additional funding and sponsorships as needed. " Work with community partners: collaborate with community organizations and local businesses to ensure that events meet the needs and expectations of the community. Specific focus on A-Youth and ASD collaboration. " Coordinate with city staff to ensure that events run smoothly and safely. Must work closely with the Events Bureau staff to collaborate on opportunities and marketing staff to promote offerings. Communicate with maintenance staff to ensure fields and facilities are prepared. " Provide customer service: ensure that all residents receive excellent customer service, addressing any issues or concerns that may arise. " Maintain records and reports: keep accurate records of expenses, attendance, and other important data. Provide regular reports to departmental leadership on the success of events. " Experience with MyRec is beneficial.
Performs related work as may be required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
(A) High school diploma or equivalent required (B) Minimum of five years supervisory experience (C) Bachelor's Degree in sports management, park management, or related field preferred, or (D) Equivalent combination of related education and experience (E) Certified Youth Sports Administrator or Certified Parks and Recreation Professional preferred (F) Bilingual Spanish Preferred
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
(A) Excellent organizational, interpersonal, leadership and communication skills. (B) Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders, including city staff, community organizations, and users of the recreation system. (C) Demonstrated experience in managing budgets and negotiating with vendors and sponsors. (D) Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed. (E) Knowledge of local regulations and certification related to managing sports leagues.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Requires intensive daily use of personal computer and other office equipment.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Employee must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
