JOB DESCRIPTION
Class Title: Medical Assistant Bi-lingual

GENERAL PURPOSE

The Medical Assistant/Bilingual is a public health professional responsible for providing services to patients under the direction of the Clinical Services Manager. This care can include but is not limited to patient education, phlebotomy services, vaccine administration, disease investigation, contact tracing services, translation services and home visitation. Additional responsibilities include performing clerical/administrative duties within the clinic or front desk settings under the direction of a manager.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the supervision of the Clinical Services Manager.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Does not supervise other staff members

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(A) Provides care to patients in various clinics including
Child and Adult Immunization Clinics, STD Clinics, and Tuberculosis Clinics. Tasks to include, but not limited to vaccine administration, vital sign procurement, laboratory specimen processing, and weight measurement.
(B) Maintains a record of Maternal/Child health (MCH) activities, collects MCH program data, compiles data via computer database and assists with the preparation of monthly and quarterly reports for the Pennsylvania Department of Health and intra-program evaluation.
(C) Works as an integral member of the clinical team; maintains communication with Communicable Disease, Environmental Health and Injury Prevention programs.
(D) Ability to work in a variety of settings including on and off-site and in-home.
(E) Participates in professional development programs to enhance knowledge and performance.
(F) Participates in patient and community education; provides health
education in clinics and the home; presents health education advocacy programs to students, civic groups, and human service agencies; evaluates the effectiveness of the education.
(G) Available to respond to public health emergencies and assume the roles designated for him/her in the public health emergency response plan.
(H) Provide quality and effective customer service with courtesy and
understanding to our customers, citizens and internal departments.
(I) Acquires, maintains and demonstrates the public health core competency

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

(A) Associate degree medical assisting
(B) 3 years of recent experience as a medical assistant


Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

(A) Ability to speak and write Spanish required
(B) Ability to organize and manage time.
(C) Ability to work independently to meet program objectives.
(D) Knowledge of the principles of health education.
(E) Good communication and interpersonal skills.
(F) Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
associates; community organizations; government; professional and non-professional groups; and the general public.
(G) Ability to work as a team player with peers and other professionals within and outside the agency.
(H) Ability to work effectively with members and leaders of the community and
and the general public, and to interact in a non-judgmental, culturally sensitive manner with people of diverse cultures and lifestyles.
(I) Willingness to perform outreach duties in the community.
(J) Possession of a valid driver's license.

This position requires daily use of a motor vehicle, computers, printers, photocopiers, phone, multimedia equipment (e.g. portable projectors, projection screens) and other electronic devices.
