| JOB DESCRIPTION | City of Allentown Position Description JOB DESCRIPTION Class Title: Sustainability Intern Compensation: $15.00 per hour Department: Department of Parks and Recreation Bureau: Maintenance
GENERAL PURPOSE
To assist the Sustainability Coordinator and Tree inspector in daily operations.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the supervision of the Sustainability Coordinator and / or the Director of Parks and Recreation and Administrative Supervisor as needed.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
None
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the daily operations of the sustainability program, including but not limited to assistance engaging the community, researching high priority sustainability projects, performing site visits, tree inventory, developing sustainability policies and identifying project opportunities. - Work closely with sustainability coordinator, tree inspector, and clerical staff. - Assist with customer service inquiries related to sustainability and trees. - Research developments in the field of sustainability. - Assist with data collection and perform site visits. - Conduct surveys and essential functions related to sustainability program. - Research grant opportunities for sustainability coordinator. - Meet attendance requirements of the position to meet the needs of the program. - Perform related work as may be required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
(A) Pursuing Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, or a related field at an accredited University; and (B) Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license, and
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
(A) Basic knowledge of municipal sustainability initiatives. (B) Strong knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications. (C) Ability to market and advertise effectively on the internet (websites/social media). (D) Ability to cooperate with private and public agencies and general public to organize and conduct effective programs. (E) Ability to work independently. (F) Ability to deal with and interact with the public using diplomacy. (G) Ability to prioritize projects. (H) Ability to keep and organize detailed records. (I) Interact effectively with staff and residents of Allentown. (J) Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with individuals and groups with diplomacy and professionalism. (K) Exercise sound judgment and flexibility. (L) Knowledge of arithmetic computations and tabulations and make calculations with speed and accuracy. (M) Ability to understand and follow moderately complex oral and written instructions. (N) Ability to prioritize work assignments, handle multiple tasks and projects, resulting in work being performed in the most efficient and timely manner. (O) Excellent problem solving skills.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Requires intensive daily use of personal computer, telephone, copier, scanner, and other office equipment.
